The ExPat Corner: Americans living in Barcelona
With just a short time before her time in Barcelona is up, I sat down with the United States Consul General, Katie Stana, here in Barcelona. We talked about life in Barcelona, what she will miss from the city, and things Americans living in Barcelona should know.

    This was a great interview! I grew up in sant cugat del valles. Moved to the US when I was 14. And that was back in 2012… in the last year or so I’ve been trying to re learn catalan. It’s funny because the bon dia song was the first thing that came to my mind when I thought of speaking catalan. Lol

    Fresh orange juice at the grocery store was honestly a big deal to us as well. I recall when 1L from the juicer was ~30% of what it would cost in the US. Recently, Whole Foods fresh OJ was $17.99 for 64 fluid oz (1.9L)

    I was so happy to find this video! There are so many "walking tour" videos of the park with NO real information about what they are seeing! I understand that most of the fountains in Barcelona are dry due to the ongoing drought. Does that include la Cascada? thank you

    The main thing is not to be afraid to be rude. The scammers rely on you being too polite to say NO to them. Be impolite, be as rude as hell to them, a short "F*ck off" or raise your fist to them usually works. Remember, they are trying to steal your hard earned money, don't let them!

    Just trying to sort this out in my head. Family of 6. Staying in Montmelo. If we were to do sagrada familia then park guell then back to Montmelo, this would be considered 3 rides per person for the day (totaling 18 rides)? So T-familiar would already be a no go for us? I’m assuming T-grup would be our better option since there are 70 rides? We have found your videos very helpful in many ways. Thank you!

    Hello Patrick, I watched your August video and this one. I am planning on doing 3 days in Madid and 3 days in Barcelona. Does September have more rain (on average) than August? Would you go in August or September? I see the weather drops a little so I was thinking September may be better. I also see the prices are a little cheaper. My goa is to to see the historical sites, experience the culture, museums, etc. Not worried about the beach (swimming) but festivals and other cultural events are nice. Thanks for your time.

    • @PatrickGuideBarcelona
      @PatrickGuideBarcelona 3 дня назад

      I would recommend picking the best dates for you and what festivals you want to see in that case. You’re not gonna have to worry too much about rain in either month.

    The church is beautiful, but i went there last week and the staff are absolutely disgusting! I was told by a staff member that i wwasnt allowed to take photos and he called me stupid and had a massive grin on his face. There was about 20 other people taking photos around me and they werent told to stop. i was pretty shocked and didnt argue back, but my boyfriend stood up for me luckily. The only problem is the staff! They really need to fix this

    Hi. I wanted to let you know how helpful your videos have been. In the past 12 hours, we have eaten paella at a restaurant off (not on) La Rambla, gone to a bank for money instead of a blue/yellow ATM and knew to shoo away the mimes with balloons before they got too close to our 9 year old. We wouldn't have known to do any of those things without your videos! Thank you!

    Hey Patrick - I am not sure which of your many great videos to respond to, so let me know if there is a better way to recognize how beneficial your videos are. I came to Barcelona for 4 days from Sunday April 21st thru April Wed April 24th, leaving the morning of April 25th to Bilbao for 2 days, and then to Madrid for 7 days. In reading your what's happening in April I changed plans on the 23rd so I could be there for St Jordi day. I would not have known that unless I watched your video. I watched all the videos about whether to visit or to skip. I was going to skip La Sagrada Familia because their site for tickets kept blocking legitimate credit card transactions in the US, but finally I found a decent rate and am so glad I walked inside that basilica. I also hired a With Locals guide for my first day and it turns out I knew more than they did because of videos like Hidden Germs: Gothic Quarter. I posted a lot of photos from my trip on FB and told them about my need to go back to Barcelona now. Many asked me for info and references and I sent them to your RUclips channel. Hope someday to meet and thank you personally for sharing your insights! All the best... brian

    What most tourists that are eager to visit three countries in one day don't realize is that it's in many ways relatively irrelevant whether you are on one side of the border or the other. Many extremely small countries are so tiny that they are lacking aspects of proper identity, such as San Marino, Andorra or Liechtenstein. Apart from that, the local geography builds up identity whether it's a mountain range like the Pyrenees with the common features on the different sides of the borders, regional identities of being Catalonian, Basque, Occitan, Gascon within the same country or even on both sides of a border. Northern France and Southern France are completely different territories. The same with Spain, Italy or Germany. Bordering regions often have more in vommon with their neighbouring country than the other end of the same. They may even speak another language on the other side of the border but the local dialect or accent at the opposite end is often as difficult to grasp as the other language. In Europe country identities are of course prevalent but are also of relative importance. Many people cross borders to di their daily shopping or go to work or visit their relatives. It may be difficult to perceive for most Americans, Canadians or Australians.
